कुन्त्य् उवाच
गम्यतां भगवंस् तत्र यतो ऽसि समुपागतः ॥
कौतूहलात् समाहूतः प्रसीद भगवन्न् इति ॥
सूर्य उवाच
गमिष्ये ऽहं यथा मां त्वं ब्रवीषि तनुमध्यमे ॥
न तु देवं समाहूय न्याय्यं प्रेषयितुं वृथा ॥
तवाभिसंधिः सुभगे सूर्यात् पुत्रो भवेद् इति ॥
वीर्येणाप्रतिमो लोके कवची कुण्डलीति च ॥
सा त्वम् आत्मप्रदानं वै कुरुष्व गजगामिनि ॥
उत्पत्स्यति हि पुत्रस् ते यथासंकल्पम् अङ्गने ॥
अथ गच्छाम्य् अहं भद्रे त्वयासंगम्य सुस्मिते ॥
शप्स्यामि त्वाम् अहं क्रुद्धो ब्राह्मणं पितरं च ते ॥
त्वत्कृते तान् प्रधक्ष्यामि सर्वान् अपि न संशयः ॥
पितरं चैव ते मूढं यो न वेत्ति तवानयम् ॥
तस्य च ब्राह्मणस्याद्य यो ऽसौ मन्त्रम् अदात् तव ॥
शीलवृत्तम् अविज्ञाय धास्यामि विनयं परम् ॥
एते हि विबुधाः सर्वे पुरंदरमुखा दिवि ॥
त्वया प्रलब्धं पश्यन्ति स्मयन्त इव भामिनि ॥
पश्य चैनान् सुरगणान् दिव्यं चक्षुर् इदं हि ते ॥
पूर्वम् एव मया दत्तं दृष्टवत्य् असि येन माम् ॥

sūrya uvāca
gamiṣye 'haṃ yathā māṃ tvaṃ bravīṣi tanumadhyame ||
na tu devaṃ samāhūya nyāyyaṃ preṣayituṃ vṛthā ||
tavābhisaṃdhiḥ subhage sūryāt putro bhaved iti ||
vīryeṇāpratimo loke kavacī kuṇḍalīti ca ||
sā tvam ātmapradānaṃ vai kuruṣva gajagāmini ||
utpatsyati hi putras te yathāsaṃkalpam aṅgane ||
atha gacchāmy ahaṃ bhadre tvayāsaṃgamya susmite ||
śapsyāmi tvām ahaṃ kruddho brāhmaṇaṃ pitaraṃ ca te ||
tvatkṛte tān pradhakṣyāmi sarvān api na saṃśayaḥ ||
pitaraṃ caiva te mūḍhaṃ yo na vetti tavānayam ||
tasya ca brāhmaṇasyādya yo 'sau mantram adāt tava ||
śīlavṛttam avijñāya dhāsyāmi vinayaṃ param ||
ete hi vibudhāḥ sarve puraṃdaramukhā divi ||
tvayā pralabdhaṃ paśyanti smayanta iva bhāmini ||
paśya cainān suragaṇān divyaṃ cakṣur idaṃ hi te ||
pūrvam eva mayā dattaṃ dṛṣṭavaty asi yena mām ||
Kunti said: 'Go, blessed one, back to where you came from. I summoned you out of curiosity; be gracious.' Surya replied: 'I shall go, as you say, slender-waisted one. But it is not right to summon a god and send him away in vain. Your intention, fair one, is that a son be born to you from Surya, unequaled in the world in might, with armor and earrings. Give yourself, and a son will be born to you according to your wish. But if I depart without uniting with you, in anger I shall curse you, the brahmin, and your father. For your sake I shall burn them all; and the brahmin who gave you the mantra I shall severely punish for not understanding your nature. All the gods headed by Indra are watching from the sky and seem to be smiling, seeing that you have deceived me. Look at these gods: this divine sight I have already given you, and by it you have seen me.' Then the princess saw all the gods in their heavenly abodes and the great radiant Bhanu.
