Krishna said: 'I desire, O Sanjaya, that the sons of Pandu not be ruined; that they may prosper and attain their wishes. In the same way I pray for the prosperity of King Dhritarashtra, who has many sons. The son of Pandu has shown an exceedingly rare character in this matter. Yet, when Dhritarashtra and his sons are so greedy, I do not understand why hostility should not increase. O Sanjaya, since you are more versed than I or Yudhishthira in the subtleties of good and evil, why then do you speak words of reproach concerning the conduct of the diligent Yudhishthira -- who, mindful of his duty and caring from the very outset for the welfare of his family, acts according to the precepts of the moral treatises? On the matter under discussion, the brahmanas hold various opinions. Some say that success in the world to come depends upon work. Others declare that action should be abandoned and that liberation is attained through knowledge.'
