Reckless in their lives, all these warriors have joined with Duryodhana and are filled with eagerness to fight the Pandavas. O hero of the Dasharha race, I would not wish you to enter their midst. How, O destroyer of foes, will you go into the midst of these many enemies of yours, evil-souled men, seated together? O mighty-armed one, you are indeed incapable of being conquered even by the gods themselves, and I know, O slayer of foes, your manliness and your wisdom.

This fragment (5.92.41-45) develops the central theme of the Udyoga-parva: the effort for peace is already underway against the backdrop of an inevitable war. Key themes: Bhishma. Here dharma is revealed through speech, the choice of embassy, faithfulness to promises, and the responsibility of kings for the consequences of their decisions.
