यथोक्तं जामदग्न्येन भूयान् एव ततो ऽर्जुनः ॥
कृष्णो हि देवकीपुत्रो देवैर् अपि दुरुत्सहः ॥
किं ते सुखप्रियेणेह प्रोक्तेन भरतर्षभ ॥
एतत् ते सर्वम् आख्यातं यथेच्छसि तथा कुरु ॥
न हि त्वाम् उत्सहे वक्तुं भूयो भरतसत्तम ॥
तस्मिन् वाक्यान्तरे वाक्यं क्षत्तापि विदुरो ऽब्रवीत् ॥
दुर्योधनम् अभिप्रेक्ष्य धार्तराष्ट्रम् अमर्षणम् ॥
दुर्योधन न शोचामि त्वाम् अहं भरतर्षभ ॥
इमौ तु वृद्धौ शोचामि गान्धारीं पितरं च ते ॥
याव् अनाथौ चरिष्येते त्वया नाथेन दुर्हृदा ॥
हतमित्रौ हतामात्यौ लूनपक्षाव् इव द्विजौ ॥

kiṃ te sukhapriyeṇeha proktena bharatarṣabha ||

duryodhanam abhiprekṣya dhārtarāṣṭram amarṣaṇam ||
duryodhana na śocāmi tvām ahaṃ bharatarṣabha ||
imau tu vṛddhau śocāmi gāndhārīṃ pitaraṃ ca te ||
yāv anāthau cariṣyete tvayā nāthena durhṛdā ||
hatamitrau hatāmātyau lūnapakṣāv iva dvijau ||
'"As was declared by the son of Jamadagni, Arjuna is even greater than that; for Krishna, the son of Devaki, is unbearable even for the gods. What use is there to you, O bull among the Bharatas, in words pleasant to hear spoken here? All this has been told to you; do as you wish. I have no strength left to speak to you further, O best of the Bharatas." In the midst of these words, the kshattr Vidura too spoke, looking at the impatient Duryodhana, son of Dhritarashtra: "Duryodhana, I do not grieve for you, O bull among the Bharatas. I grieve for these two aged ones — Gandhari and your father: bereft of protection because of you, their wicked protector, they will wander like two birds with clipped wings, having lost their friends and counselors."'

Duryodhana is warned not with abstract phrases but through the concrete consequences of his choice: the death of his kin, the loss of the kingdom, and remorse to come.
