Translation

Kunti said: 'Here too they relate an ancient legend — the conversation of Vidura with her son, O scorcher of foes. In it there is both good and great benefit, as befitted the speech of this glorious, wise, and radiant woman, born into a noble lineage. Vidura was devoted to the dharma of kshatriyas, fortunate and far-sighted; she was known in the assemblies of kings, her words were heeded, and she herself had heard much. The truthful woman named Vidura rebuked her own son, defeated by the king of Sindhu, lying in despondency, bringing no joy to his own, ignorant of dharma and adding to the delight of his enemies: "Neither by me nor by your father were you born; from where then have you come? You, devoid of indignation, cling to a side branch — a man fit only to serve the weak."'
