Translation

Vaishampayana said: When the night had passed, King Duryodhana, O Bharata, divided his eleven armies. In all these battle divisions the lord of the earth apportioned the choicest, the middling, and the lesser part of the men, elephants, chariots, and horses. They were furnished with additional harness, quivers, protective coverings, tomaras, side quivers, javelins, sheathed swords, and maces; with banners, flags, bows, and throwing spears, with colorful ropes, nooses, and coverings; with devices for seizing and hurling by the hair, with oil, molasses, and sand, with pots of venomous snakes, and with resin and dust.
