All of them had bells and shields, adzes and axes, and were covered with tiger skins and wrapped in leopard hides. They carried water skins, horns, prasa spears and various weapons, axes, spades, oil, linen, and clarified butter. Their battle arrays were colorful, the warriors handsome in form and blazing like fires. Heroes clad in armor were well-trained in arms; noblemen versed in the breeds of horses were appointed as charioteers. The chariots, with fastened guards, tightened girths, and secured banners and flags, were all yoked with four horses, all equipped with weapons, all with spirited teams and a hundred bows.

This chapter shows the outward face of war: not a burst of anger, but a meticulously organized machine of violence. The detailed lists of weapons, supplies, chariots, elephants, horses, and units underscore the scale of the king's responsibility: when dharma is cast aside, the entire intelligence and order of the state comes to serve destruction.
