एवम् उक्त्वा ततः पार्थो ध्यायन्न् आस्ते महामनाः ॥
चिरम् अन्तर्मना भूत्वा शोकोपहतचेतनः ॥
शोकार्तं पाण्डवं ज्ञात्वा दुःखेन हतचेतसम् ॥
अब्रवीत् तत्र गोविन्दो हर्षयन् सर्वपाण्डवान् ॥
मा शुचो भरतश्रेष्ठ न त्वं शोचितुम् अर्हसि ॥
यस्य ते भ्रातरः शूराः सर्वलोकस्य धन्विनः ॥
अहं च प्रियकृद् राजन् सात्यकिश् च महारथः ॥
विराटद्रुपदौ वृद्धौ धृष्टद्युम्नश् च पार्षतः ॥
तथैव सबलाः सर्वे राजानो राजसत्तम ॥
त्वत्प्रसादं प्रतीक्षन्ते त्वद्भक्ताश् च विशां पते ॥
एष ते पार्षतो नित्यं हितकामः प्रिये रतः ॥
सेनापत्यम् अनुप्राप्तो धृष्टद्युम्नो महाबलः ॥
शिखण्डी च महाबाहो भीष्मस्य निधनं किल ॥

ciram antarmanā bhūtvā śokopahatacetanaḥ ||
śokārtaṃ pāṇḍavaṃ jñātvā duḥkhena hatacetasam ||

yasya te bhrātaraḥ śūrāḥ sarvalokasya dhanvinaḥ ||
ahaṃ ca priyakṛd rājan sātyakiś ca mahārathaḥ ||
virāṭadrupadau vṛddhau dhṛṣṭadyumnaś ca pārṣataḥ ||
tathaiva sabalāḥ sarve rājāno rājasattama ||
tvatprasādaṃ pratīkṣante tvadbhaktāś ca viśāṃ pate ||
eṣa te pārṣato nityaṃ hitakāmaḥ priye rataḥ ||
senāpatyam anuprāpto dhṛṣṭadyumno mahābalaḥ ||
śikhaṇḍī ca mahābāho bhīṣmasya nidhanaṃ kila ||
Having spoken thus, Partha, the great-hearted one, sat pondering; having long turned inward, his mind was stricken with grief. Knowing that the Pandava was tormented by sorrow, his mind broken by suffering, Govinda then spoke, cheering all the Pandavas: 'Grieve not, best of the Bharatas. It does not befit you to mourn: your brothers are heroes, archers unmatched in all the world. And I too work for your good, O king; with you are Satyaki, the great chariot-warrior, the venerable Virata and Drupada, Dhrishtadyumna the son of Prishata, and likewise all the kings with their armies, O best of kings. They await your grace and are devoted to you, O lord of men. This mighty Dhrishtadyumna, son of Prishata, ever wishing you well and delighting in what is dear to you, has taken up the office of commander; and Shikhandin, the mighty-armed, is indeed destined to be the death of Bhishma.'
