क्षत्रधर्मं पुरस्कृत्य गतः शूरः सतां गतिम् ॥
यां वयं प्राप्नुयामेह ये चान्ये शस्त्रजीविनः ॥
व्यूढोरस्को महाबाहुर् अनिवर्ती वरप्रणुत् ॥
गतस् तव वरारोहे पुत्रः स्वर्गं ज्वरं जहि ॥
kṣatradharmaṃ puraskṛtya gataḥ śūraḥ satāṃ gatim ||
yāṃ vayaṃ prāpnuyāmeha ye cānye śastrajīvinaḥ ||
vyūḍhorasko mahābāhur anivartī varapraṇut ||
gatas tava varārohe putraḥ svargaṃ jvaraṃ jahi ||
"Holding the kshatriya duty foremost, the brave one has ascended to the estate of the righteous — the goal which we ourselves would attain here, and others who live by the sword. Broad-chested, mighty-armed, unyielding, vanquisher of the finest [foes] — your son, O fair one, has gone to heaven; cast off the fever of grief."

Krishna places the boy in the same rank as Himself and all warriors: "yāṃ vayaṃ prāpnuyāma… ye ca anye śastrajīvinaḥ", the goal which they themselves would attain. Thus his death is not singled out as misfortune but written into the common lot of those who live by arms. "Jvaraṃ jahi", "cast off the fever of grief" — grief is named a fever, a sickness to be overcome. It is telling that the Lord counts even Himself among those walking this path. The verse teaches that grief is also healed by the awareness of a shared fate: the departed one is not alone in his lot — all the valiant walk the same road, and so grief loses the sting of singularity.
