अनु जातश् च पितरं मातृपक्षं च वीर्यवान् ॥
सहस्रशो रिपून् हत्वा हतः शूरो महारथः ॥
आश्वासय स्नुषां राज्ञि मा शुचः क्षत्रिये भृषम् ॥
श्वः प्रियं सुमहच् छ्रुत्वा विशोका भव नन्दिनि ॥
anu jātaś ca pitaraṃ mātṛpakṣaṃ ca vīryavān ||
sahasraśo ripūn hatvā hataḥ śūro mahārathaḥ ||
āśvāsaya snuṣāṃ rājñi mā śucaḥ kṣatriye bhṛṣam ||
śvaḥ priyaṃ sumahac chrutvā viśokā bhava nandini ||
"And, taking after his father and his mother's kin, the valiant one, having slain enemies by the thousand, the brave great chariot-warrior was slain. Console the daughter-in-law, O queen; do not grieve excessively, O kshatriya woman. Tomorrow, hearing very great and joyful news, be free of grief, O delight."

Krishna turns Subhadra's grief outward, toward care for the younger woman: "āśvāsaya snuṣām", "console the daughter-in-law". He makes the grieving one a comforter, for care for another heals one's own sorrow. It is telling that here too the loss is balanced by a promise: "śvaḥ priyaṃ sumahat śrutvā", "tomorrow, hearing very great joy". The verse teaches that the best remedy for one's own pain is to become a support for one who suffers still more; and that grief, resting on a firm promise of what is to come, ceases to be hopeless and turns into patient waiting for the truth.
