Winds everywhere with thunderclaps, harsh, showering gravel, blew as Kaunteya advanced, when battle had come. And Shatanika, son of Nakula, and Dhrishtadyumna, son of Prishata, those two wise ones, then arrayed the armies of the Pandavas. Amid dread winds and portents both sides array themselves: for the Pandavas, "prājñau... vyūhatuḥ," the wise Shatanika and Dhrishtadyumna. It is significant that even amid favorable omens the righteous do not neglect prudent ordering: faith in the outcome does not cancel careful preparation. The verse teaches that trust in truth joins with sober action: those who know their victory still array their forces skillfully, for heaven's favor crowns not carelessness but diligence; and the wisdom of a commander is part of righteous deed.
