Among the human duels rakshasas too now rise — Ghatotkacha, Alayudha, Alambusa: the strife has drawn in other orders of being as well. It is telling that the war of men swells into a battle of races and natures. The verse teaches that evil, once kindled, oversteps the bounds of its own kind: human enmity draws in rakshasas and other powers besides; lawlessness left unchecked at its start spreads until it engulfs everything, from men to creatures of the night, multiplying ruin across every world.
