तद् रक्षः समरे विद्धं कृत्वा नादं भयावहम् ॥
अभ्यद्रवत् ततो भीमं ये च तस्य पदानुगाः ॥
स भीमं पञ्चभिर् विद्ध्वा शरैः संनतपर्वभिः ॥
भीमानुगाञ् जघानाशु रथांस् त्रिंशद् अरिंदमः ॥
पुनश् चतुःशतान् हत्वा भीमं विव्याध पत्रिणा ॥
सो ऽतिविद्धस् तदा भीमो राक्षसेन महाबलः ॥
निषसाद रथोपस्थे मूर्छयाभिपरिप्लुतः ॥
tad rakṣaḥ samare viddhaṃ kṛtvā nādaṃ bhayāvaham ||
abhyadravat tato bhīmaṃ ye ca tasya padānugāḥ ||
sa bhīmaṃ pañcabhir viddhvā śaraiḥ saṃnataparvabhiḥ ||
bhīmānugāñ jaghānāśu rathāṃs triṃśad ariṃdamaḥ ||
punaś catuḥśatān hatvā bhīmaṃ vivyādha patriṇā ||
so 'tividdhas tadā bhīmo rākṣasena mahābalaḥ ||
niṣasāda rathopasthe mūrchayābhipariplutaḥ ||
That rakshasa, pierced in the battle, letting out a terrifying roar, then rushed upon Bhima and those who followed in his steps. Piercing Bhima with five smooth-jointed arrows, the tamer of foes swiftly slew Bhima's followers—thirty chariots. And then Bhima, the mighty one, sorely pierced by the rakshasa, sank upon the platform of his chariot, overcome by a swoon.

Even mighty Bhima is for a moment overpowered by the rakshasa—"niṣasāda… mūrchayā abhipariplutaḥ", he sinks into unconsciousness: demonic power is formidable, and the righteous do not escape it wholly unscathed. It is telling that even the strongest knows a moment of exhaustion. The verse teaches that the struggle against evil is never easy or without wounds: even the greatest of heroes is temporarily brought low, and it is not the absence of falls but the capacity to rise that marks the one who will prevail in the end.
