एतस्मिन्न् अन्तरे राजन् द्रोणः शस्त्रभृतां वरः ॥
अभ्ययाज् जवनैर् अश्वैर् युयुधानं महारथम् ॥
तम् उदीर्णं तथा दृष्ट्वा शैनेयं कुरुपुंगवाः ॥
द्रोणेनैव सह क्रुद्धाः सात्यकिं पर्यवारयन् ॥
ततः प्रववृते युद्धं कुरूणां सात्वतस्य च ॥
द्रोणस्य च रणे राजन् घोरं देवासुरोपमम् ॥

abhyayāj javanair aśvair yuyudhānaṃ mahāratham ||
tam udīrṇaṃ tathā dṛṣṭvā śaineyaṃ kurupuṃgavāḥ ||
droṇenaiva saha kruddhāḥ sātyakiṃ paryavārayan ||
tataḥ pravavṛte yuddhaṃ kurūṇāṃ sātvatasya ca ||
droṇasya ca raṇe rājan ghoraṃ devāsuropamam ||

Translation

Meanwhile, O king, Drona, best of weapon-bearers, sped forth on swift horses against Yuyudhana, the great warrior. Seeing Shaineya so exalted, the bulls among the Kurus, enraged, surrounded Satyaki together with Drona. Then a battle broke out between the Kurus and Satvata and Drona, O king — terrible, like a war of gods and demons.
