तथा विलपमाने तु सव्यसाचिनि तं प्रति ॥
सैन्धवं निहतं दृष्ट्वा राधेयः समुपाद्रवत् ॥
उपायान्तं तु राधेयं दृष्ट्वा पार्थो महारथः ॥
प्रहसन् देवकीपुत्रम् इदं वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥
एष प्रयात्य् आधिरथिः सात्यकेः स्यन्दनं प्रति ॥
न मृष्यति हतं नूनं भूरिश्रवसम् आहवे ॥
यत्र यात्य् एष तत्र त्वं चोदयाश्वाञ् जनार्दन ॥
मा सोमदत्तेः पदवीं गमयेत् सात्यकिं वृषः ॥
tathā vilapamāne tu savyasācini taṃ prati ||
saindhavaṃ nihataṃ dṛṣṭvā rādheyaḥ samupādravat ||
upāyāntaṃ tu rādheyaṃ dṛṣṭvā pārtho mahārathaḥ ||
prahasan devakīputram idaṃ vacanam abravīt ||
eṣa prayāty ādhirathiḥ sātyakeḥ syandanaṃ prati ||
na mṛṣyati hataṃ nūnaṃ bhūriśravasam āhave ||
yatra yāty eṣa tatra tvaṃ codayāśvāñ janārdana ||
mā somadatteḥ padavīṃ gamayet sātyakiṃ vṛṣaḥ ||
While Savyasachin lamented thus over him [Kripa], Radheya [Karna], having seen Saindhava slain, rushed forward. But seeing Radheya approaching, Partha, the mighty warrior, laughing, spoke this word to the son of Devaki [Krishna]: "There goes the son of Adhiratha toward Satyaki's chariot; surely he cannot bear Bhurishravas slain in battle. Wherever he goes, urge the horses there, Janardana; lest Vrisha [Karna] lead Satyaki down the path of the son of Somadatta [to death]."

Scarcely has he finished mourning his teacher when Arjuna hastens to protect his friend: grief does not banish care for one's neighbor. It is telling that he fears more for Satyaki than he seeks a duel with Karna: love for a friend precedes the thirst for combat. The verse teaches that the heart of the noble holds sorrow and solicitude at once; and one who has just been repenting turns at once his whole vigilance to saving the one dear to him.
