"Let the yogī be of firm posture, established in the lotus posture and the rest; and then, from the piercing of the knot of Viṣṇu, supreme bliss arises."

It is worth noting that supreme bliss is attributed to the piercing of precisely the knot of Viṣṇu, the second of the three. This detail is constant in haṭha-yogic books, and it is worth saying why the second knot is linked to bliss. The first knot, of Brahmā, stands below and means attachment to matter and to deeds; the second, of Viṣṇu, is in the heart and means attachment to standing and merit; the third, of Rudra, is between the eyebrows and means attachment to oneself.
And it is said that at the piercing of the heart knot bliss appears. The explanation, apparently, is this: the heart is the seat of feeling, and with its untying feeling is set free. Let us add what the Vaiṣṇava side remarks on this, for its remark here is brief and sharp.
It says: the name of Viṣṇu is placed at the knot that is to be cut; and about such use of names as names of stages it was said when reading the Varāha (5.65). Its rule, cited there, was: a name is not a label; and a person accustomed to a language in which names are designations of obstacles grows accustomed also to the thought that behind names there is nothing. Let us add what it itself holds regarding this knot.
Its hṛdaya-granthi, "knot of the heart," is untied not by cutting but by seeing: bhidyate hṛdaya-granthiś chidyante sarva-saṃśayāḥ … dṛṣṭa evātmaniśvare, "when he has seen the Lord within himself."
