It is worth noting the word samarasatva, "uniformity of taste," from sama and rasa. This word is technical in yogic and tantric literature and means a state in which everything has one taste: neither pleasant nor unpleasant, for the distinction of tastes has vanished. The Vaiṣṇava side does not dispute the description; and its remark, as always, concerns the word rasa.
Let us repeat briefly what was said when reading the Varāha (2.71). Rasa in its teaching is the taste of a relationship, and five such tastes are distinguished — peace, service, friendship, parental tenderness, love. That is, for it taste is what is distinguished, not what is equalized; and "uniformity of taste" would for it be not a summit but an impoverishment.
Let us add what follows from this and is, to my mind, worth keeping. A state in which everything is the same is a state in which nothing is preferred; and love is by its very essence preference. Hence its goal cannot be uniformity of taste: if everything became the same, then He too would become the same as everything else.
Let us add, however, what is true in this verse and what it accepts. It says: saṃkṣīyate prāṇaḥ, "breath is exhausted"; that is, a state is described in which the body has quieted to the limit. As a description it is precise; the dispute is only over whether this is the summit.
