Traducción

Suta said: «When the priests were then pouring oblations at that great serpent sacrifice, fearsome serpents, bringing terror to every living being, fell there into the fire. Streams of fat and marrow of the nagas flowed forth, and a tumultuous stench arose from those ceaselessly burning. And ceaselessly was heard the sound of the nagas falling, and of those still holding in the air, and of those being fiercely scorched by the fire. Takshaka, that lord of the nagas, upon merely hearing that King Janamejaya had been consecrated for the rite, went to the abode of Purandara (Indra). And having told him everything as it had happened, the foremost of serpents, terrified and guilty, took refuge in Purandara as his shelter. To him Indra, well pleased, said: «You have no fear here, O Takshaka, O lord of the nagas, from that serpent sacrifice. I long ago propitiated the Grandfather for your sake; therefore you have no fear — let the fever of your mind depart.» Thus consoled by him, the foremost of serpents dwelt there, in the abode of Shakra, joyful and happy.»
