महातेजाः स भगवान् सदैव च महातपाः ॥
कोपनश् च तथा ह्य् एनं जानाति भगवान् अपि ॥
तेजसस् तपसश् चैव कोपस्य च महात्मनः ॥
त्वम् अप्य् उद्विजसे यस्य नोद्विजेयम् अहं कथम् ॥
महाभागं वसिष्ठं यः पुत्रैर् इष्टैर् व्ययोजयत् ॥
क्षत्रे जातश् च यः पूर्वम् अभवद् ब्राह्मणो बलात् ॥
शौचार्थं यो नदीं चक्रे दुर्गमां बहुभिर् जलैः ॥
यां तां पुण्यतमां लोके कौशिकीति विदुर् जनाः ॥
बभार यत्रास्य पुरा काले दुर्गे महात्मनः ॥
दारान् मतङ्गो धर्मात्मा राजर्षिर् व्याधतां गतः ॥
अतीतकाले दुर्भिक्षे यत्रैत्य पुनर् आश्रमम् ॥
मुनिः पारेति नद्या वै नाम चक्रे तदा प्रभुः ॥
मतङ्गं याजयां चक्रे यत्र प्रीतमनाः स्वयम् ॥
त्वं च सोमं भयाद् यस्य गतः पातुं शुरेश्वर ॥
अति नक्षत्रवंशांश् च क्रुद्धो नक्षत्रसंपदा ॥
प्रति श्रवणपूर्वाणि नक्षत्राणि ससर्ज यः ॥
एतानि यस्य कर्माणि तस्याहं भृशम् उद्विजे ॥
यथा मां न दहेत् क्रुद्धस् तथाज्ञापय मां विभो ॥

mahābhāgaṃ vasiṣṭhaṃ yaḥ putrair iṣṭair vyayojayat ||
kṣatre jātaś ca yaḥ pūrvam abhavad brāhmaṇo balāt ||
śaucārthaṃ yo nadīṃ cakre durgamāṃ bahubhir jalaiḥ ||
yāṃ tāṃ puṇyatamāṃ loke kauśikīti vidur janāḥ ||
babhāra yatrāsya purā kāle durge mahātmanaḥ ||
dārān mataṅgo dharmātmā rājarṣir vyādhatāṃ gataḥ ||
atītakāle durbhikṣe yatraitya punar āśramam ||
muniḥ pāreti nadyā vai nāma cakre tadā prabhuḥ ||
mataṅgaṃ yājayāṃ cakre yatra prītamanāḥ svayam ||
tvaṃ ca somaṃ bhayād yasya gataḥ pātuṃ śureśvara ||
ati nakṣatravaṃśāṃś ca kruddho nakṣatrasaṃpadā ||
prati śravaṇapūrvāṇi nakṣatrāṇi sasarja yaḥ ||
etāni yasya karmāṇi tasyāhaṃ bhṛśam udvije ||
yathā māṃ na dahet kruddhas tathājñāpaya māṃ vibho ||

यः महाभागं वसिष्ठं इष्टैः पुत्रैः व्ययोजयत् यः क्षत्रे जातः बलात् ब्राह्मणः अभवत्yaḥ mahābhāgaṃ vasiṣṭhaṃ iṣṭaiḥ putraiḥ vyayojayat yaḥ kṣatre jātaḥ balāt brāhmaṇaḥ abhavat[he] who parted the blessed Vasishtha from his beloved sons; who, born among kshatriyas, by force [of austerity] became a brahmin
यः शौचार्थं बहुभिः जलैः दुर्गमां नदीं चक्रे यां लोके पुण्यतमां कौशिकी इति जनाः विदुःyaḥ śaucārthaṃ bahubhiḥ jalaiḥ durgamāṃ nadīṃ cakre yāṃ loke puṇyatamāṃ kauśikī iti janāḥ viduḥ[he] who, for the sake of his own purification, made a mighty, difficult river, which in the world people know as the most sacred Kaushiki
यत्र दुर्गे काले मतङ्गः धर्मात्मा राजर्षिः व्याधतां गतः अस्य दारान् बभारyatra durge kāle mataṅgaḥ dharmātmā rājarṣiḥ vyādhatāṃ gataḥ asya dārān babhāra[he] whose wives, in the hard time [of famine], were fed by the righteous royal sage Matanga, who [then] became a hunter
अतीतकाले दुर्भिक्षे पुनः आश्रमं एत्य प्रभुः मुनिः तस्याः नद्याः पारा इति नाम चक्रेatītakāle durbhikṣe punaḥ āśramaṃ etya prabhuḥ muniḥ tasyāḥ nadyāḥ pārā iti nāma cakrewhen the time of famine had passed, having returned again to the hermitage, the lord sage gave that river the name "Para" (the deliveress)
यत्र प्रीतमनाः स्वयं मतङ्गं याजयां चक्रे यस्य भयात् त्वं च सोमं पातुं गतः शुरेश्वरyatra prītamanāḥ svayaṃ mataṅgaṃ yājayāṃ cakre yasya bhayāt tvaṃ ca somaṃ pātuṃ gataḥ śureśvara[he] who, with a gladdened heart, himself performed the sacrifice for Matanga, from fear of whom you too, O lord of gods, went to drink soma
यः क्रुद्धः नक्षत्रवंशान् अति नक्षत्रसंपदा श्रवणपूर्वाणि प्रति नक्षत्राणि ससर्जyaḥ kruddhaḥ nakṣatravaṃśān ati nakṣatrasaṃpadā śravaṇapūrvāṇi prati nakṣatrāṇi sasarja[he] who, in wrath, surpassing the [former] order of constellations, with a [new] abundance of stars created other constellations beginning with Shravana
