Here Ganga hands the son over to his father, enumerating his education. It is notable who his teachers were: the Vedas with the vedangas — from Vasishtha; the science of Shukra and of Brihaspati; the weaponry of Parashurama (Rama Jamadagnya). Here is the fruit of true upbringing: the prince was raised not in a palace amid luxury but at the feet of great sages, in austerity and study; hence he is perfect both in spiritual knowledge and in the art of war. It is notable that the Vedas and vedangas are named first, and only then weaponry: the foundation of nobility is sacred knowledge and dharma, and strength only serves them. Here is the right order of upbringing: teach dharma and God first, then skill — otherwise strength without dharma becomes destructive. And the words 'given by me, your own son' are touching: Ganga, having fulfilled a mother's duty — to bear, to save, and to educate — returns the perfected son to his father. Thus the scripture shows the ideal of parenthood: to give a child not wealth but knowledge, dharma, and the company of the saintly — that is the highest inheritance.
