Here begins the account of the kingdom's flourishing following the birth of the three brothers. The link between the birth of righteous rulers and the land's prosperity is telling: with the appearance of worthy heirs, everything comes alive and prospers -- the land, the people, and the sacred field. This is a Vedic truth: the well-being of the land is inseparable from the virtue of its rulers; where the righteous reign, both nature and subjects attain fullness. Thus scripture, moving from the drama of births to the picture of a golden age, prepares a solemn canvas of prosperity founded on the dharma of rulers and the care of Bhishma.
