वसिष्ठ उवाच
पुत्रि कस्यैष साङ्गस्य वेदस्याध्ययनस्वनः ॥
पुरा साङ्गस्य वेदस्य शक्तेर् इव मया श्रुतः ॥
अदृश्यन्त्य् उवाच
अयं कुक्षौ समुत्पन्नः शक्तेर् गर्भः सुतस्य ते ॥
समा द्वादश तस्येह वेदान् अभ्यसतो मुने ॥
vasiṣṭha uvāca
putri kasyaiṣa sāṅgasya vedasyādhyayanasvanaḥ ||
purā sāṅgasya vedasya śakter iva mayā śrutaḥ ||
adṛśyanty uvāca
ayaṃ kukṣau samutpannaḥ śakter garbhaḥ sutasya te ||
samā dvādaśa tasyeha vedān abhyasato mune ||
Vasishtha said: "Daughter, whose is this sound of Vedic recitation with the angas, as I once heard the Veda with the angas from Shakti?" Adrishyanti said: "This is the child conceived in my womb by Shakti, your son; for twelve years now he has been studying the Vedas here, O muni."

Here a wonder reveals itself -- the unborn child reciting the Veda in the womb. It is telling that the child of Shakti, not yet born, has for twelve years distinctly recited the Veda: the seed of the righteous carries holiness before birth. Here it is shown that good samskaras and knowledge accompany the soul even in the womb: one born of a sage enters the world already partaking of the sacred. It is telling that Vasishtha recognizes in this sound an echo of his slain son. Thus the scripture shows that the line of the righteous is not cut off by death: in the unborn grandson Shakti continues; and this news brings the grandfather unlooked-for consolation.
