अर्जुनो धनुषो ऽभ्याशे तस्थौ गिरिर् इवाचलः ॥
स तद् धनुः परिक्रम्य प्रदक्षिणम् अथाकरोत् ॥
प्रणम्य शिरसा हृष्टो जगृहे च परंतपः ॥

"Thus, while those brahmins wailed with many voices, Arjuna stood beside the bow like an unmoving mountain. Circling that bow, he performed the pradakshina around it, and bowing his head, rejoicing, he took it up, that scourge of foes."

Here the hero, before his feat, shows calm and reverence. Significant is that Arjuna stands "like an unmoving mountain" amid the clamor: one sure of himself is troubled by neither doubt nor noise. Significant too, that he does not seize the bow boldly but circles it clockwise and bows: he begins a great deed with reverence. Here it is shown that a feat should be preceded by reverence: even toward his own instrument the hero bows, invoking a blessing. Thus the scripture shows humility preceding strength; and Arjuna, having bowed to the bow, is ready for the deed.
