पौरुषेण तु यत् कार्यं तत् कर्तारौ स्व पावक ॥
करणानि समर्थानि भगवन् दातुम् अर्हसि ॥

Here a fitting division of labor and grace is proclaimed. The saying is significant: 'what is to be accomplished by manly effort is our task, but give the instruments yourself': man makes the effort, the god supplies the means. In this is the right order: purusha-kartara [human effort] and daiva [grace from above] together accomplish great things; one should neither idly await a gift nor strive without help from above. The scripture shows here a model of cooperation between man and god; and the feat of Khandava will be accomplished by their union.
