अस्माद् बिलान् निष्पतितं श्येन आखुं जहार तम् ॥
क्षुद्रं गृहीत्वा पादाभ्यां भयं न भविता ततः ॥

Here a mother clutches at any hope to save her children. It is telling that Jarita rushes to see in the hawk's act the removal of the threat: a loving heart is inclined to believe what it wishes. Thus is revealed how love seeks comfort even in what is uncertain. So the scripture shows a mother's hope; but her level-headed children will test it against the facts.
