एवम् उक्तः भगवताevam uktaḥ bhagavatāthus addressed by the Lord,
प्रत्युवाच युधिष्ठिरःpratyuvāca yudhiṣṭhiraḥYudhishthira replied,
भीम-पार्थौ समालोक्यbhīma-pārthau samālokyahaving looked upon Bhima and Partha,
संप्रहृष्ट-मुखौ स्थितौsaṃprahṛṣṭa-mukhau sthitauwho stood with joyful faces:
अच्युत अच्युत मा मा एवम्acyuta acyuta mā mā evam"Achyuta, Achyuta, do not, do not speak so,
व्याहर अमित्र-कर्षणvyāhara amitra-karṣaṇado not utter [it], O scourge of enemies;
पाण्डवानाम् भवान् नाथःpāṇḍavānām bhavān nāthaḥof the Pandavas you are the lord [protector],
भवन्तम् च आश्रिताः वयम्bhavantam ca āśritāḥ vayamand on you we have relied;
यथा वदसि गोविन्दyathā vadasi govindaas you say, O Govinda,
सर्वम् तत् उपपद्यतेsarvam tat upapadyateall of that comes to pass;
न हि त्वम् अग्रतः तेषाम्na hi tvam agrataḥ teṣāmfor you are not at the fore of those
येषाम् लक्ष्मीः पराङ्मुखीyeṣām lakṣmīḥ parāṅmukhīfrom whom fortune has turned away;

Here the king surrenders to the Lord completely: "you are our protector, on you we have relied." It is significant that he confesses: "as you say, all comes to pass; you do not lead to misfortune" -- this is sharanagati, taking refuge in the Lord whose word is infallible. Thus scripture shows devotion as the foundation of every undertaking; and further on -- the fruit of this surrender.
