अमर्षात् अभितप्तानाम्amarṣāt abhitaptānāmburning with indignation,
ज्ञाति-अर्थम् मुख्य-वाससाम्jñāti-artham mukhya-vāsasāmfor the sake of kinsmen, in noble garments,
रवि-सोम-अग्नि-वपुषाम्ravi-soma-agni-vapuṣām[with] bodies like the sun, the moon, fire,
भीमम् आसीत् तदा वपुःbhīmam āsīt tadā vapuḥfearsome was then their form;
हतम् मेने जरासंधम्hatam mene jarāsaṃdhamstruck down did [everyone] deem Jarasandha,
दृष्ट्वा भीम-पुरोगमौdṛṣṭvā bhīma-purogamauhaving seen, with Bhima in front,
एक-कार्य-समुद्युक्तौeka-kārya-samudyuktauintent on a single purpose,
कृष्णौ युद्धे अपराजितौkṛṣṇau yuddhe aparājitauthe two Krishnas, unconquered in battle;
ईशौ हि तौ महात्मानौīśau hi tau mahātmānaufor those two great-souled lords
सर्व-कार्य-प्रवर्तनेsarva-kārya-pravartanein the initiation of all deeds,
धर्म-अर्थ-काम-कार्याणाम्dharma-artha-kāma-kāryāṇām[as] in the deeds of dharma, artha, kama,
कार्याणाम् इव निग्रहेkāryāṇām iva nigraheso also in the suppression of [unrighteous] deeds;

Here the two Krishnas are called lords both in the accomplishment of good and in the suppression of wrong. It is significant that the Lord and His companion not only uphold dharma but also restrain adharma: mercy and chastisement are the two hands of one righteousness. Thus scripture shows the fullness of divine rule; and further on -- the path eastward.
