Here Krishna describes the enemy's stronghold soberly and in detail — its beauty and its defenses. It is telling that one who sets out on a fearsome task first surveys the ground of it: the wise do not neglect reconnaissance even before a decisive step. Thus the text shows circumspection at the very approach to the goal; and further follows the sacred history of the place.
