आजग्मुर् ब्राह्मणास् तत्र विषयेभ्यस् ततस् ततः ॥
सर्वविद्यासु निष्णाता वेदवेदाङ्गपारगाः ॥
तेषाम् आवसथांश् चक्रुर् धर्मराजस्य शासनात् ॥
बह्वन्नाञ् शयनैर् युक्तान् सगणानां पृथक् पृथक् ॥
सर्वर्तुगुणसंपन्नाञ् शिल्पिनो ऽथ सहस्रशः ॥
तेषु ते न्यवसन् राजन् ब्राह्मणा भृशसत्कृताः ॥
कथयन्तः कथा बह्वीः पश्यन्तो नटनर्तकान् ॥
ājagmur brāhmaṇās tatra viṣayebhyas tatas tataḥ ||
sarvavidyāsu niṣṇātā vedavedāṅgapāragāḥ ||
teṣām āvasathāṃś cakrur dharmarājasya śāsanāt ||
bahvannāñ śayanair yuktān sagaṇānāṃ pṛthak pṛthak ||
sarvartuguṇasaṃpannāñ śilpino 'tha sahasraśaḥ ||
teṣu te nyavasan rājan brāhmaṇā bhṛśasatkṛtāḥ ||
kathayantaḥ kathā bahvīḥ paśyanto naṭanartakān ||
There came brahmins from every region, from everywhere, versed in all the sciences, knowers of the Vedas and the vedangas. By Dharmaraja's command, dwellings were prepared for them, abundant with food and furnished with beds, each with its own retinue, apart. In them dwelt, O king, the greatly honored brahmins, telling many tales and watching actors and dancers.

The gathering of sages "from every region" turns the sacrifice into an assembly of learning: knowers of the Vedas come together as one, and wisdom itself flows in their conversations. It is telling that their joy is unforced — tales, spectacles, honor: piety is not gloomy, and holy celebration is not a stranger to delight. The verse teaches that a gathering of the righteous is a good in itself, apart from the rite: where the knowing come together, knowledge and gladness of spirit are multiplied. And the king who gives them shelter and food reaps a fruit no less than from oblations poured into the fire — for to give the wise repose is itself a sacrifice.
