आगच्छत् पाण्डवेयस्य यज्ञं संग्रामदुर्मदः ॥

And other Bahlikas, all these brave kings, Virata with his sons, and Machella, the great chariot-warrior; and Shishupala, the greatly valiant, furious in battle, came with his son, O Bharata, to the Pandava's sacrifice.

Special note is made of Shishupala's arrival — 'furious in battle': the one destined to fall at this very celebration now enters as a guest. It is notable that the malicious man himself comes to the place where his fate will be fulfilled: pride draws its bearer to the place of his own exposure. The verse teaches that a person often walks on his own feet toward the limit appointed for him; and fury unrestrained by humility leads its possessor not to glory but to ruin — at the appointed hour, in the appointed place, by a will higher than his own reckoning.
