Traducción
"By them was won Draupadi as wife, and Drupada with his sons became an ally in the winning of the land, and the valiant Vasudeva. And there was won, taken from no one, the ancestral share, O lord of the earth, grown through their ardor -- what is there to lament here?"

Listing the Pandavas' successes, Shakuni crowns them with the name of Vasudeva -- their ally. It is notable that even the slanderer cannot pass over the main thing in silence: Krishna is with them. The verse reveals the hidden cause of all their victories, unwittingly named by the enemy: not valor alone, but union with the Lord that made their 'ardor' grow. 'What is there to lament here?' asks Shakuni, wishing only to inflame Duryodhana's pride by reminding him of another's happiness; but his question turns into something else: truly there is nothing to lament for one who does not envy -- and whoever is an ally of Vasudeva has everything increase for him by right. Lamentation, then, is the lot only of one who would seize what God has granted another.
