Traducción

‘Bodily suffering arises from four causes: disease, unwanted contact, fatigue, and separation from what is dear. It is calmed by two means: swift remedy and by not dwelling constantly upon it. Therefore wise physicians remove pain in advance, and the mental suffering of people — with kind words and by leading them toward joy. From mental suffering the body grows heated, like water in a vessel heated by a red-hot iron ball. Therefore mental suffering should be pacified with knowledge, as fire is quenched with water; when mental suffering is pacified, bodily suffering subsides too.’
