वैशंपायन उवाच
यथागतं गते शक्रे भ्रातृभिः सह संगतः ॥
कृष्णया चैव बीभत्सुर् धर्मपुत्रम् अपूजयत् ॥
अभिवादयमानं तु मूर्ध्न्य् उपाघ्राय पाण्डवम् ॥
हर्षगद्गदया वाचा प्रहृष्टो ऽर्जुनम् अब्रवीत् ॥
कथम् अर्जुन कालो ऽयं स्वर्गे व्यतिगतस् तव ॥
कथं चास्त्राण्य् अवाप्तानि देवराजश् च तोषितः ॥
सम्यग् वा ते गृहीतानि कच्चिद् अस्त्राणि भारत ॥
कच्चित् सुराधिपः प्रीतो रुद्रश् चास्त्राण्य् अदात् तव ॥
यथा दृष्टश् च ते शक्रो भगवान् वा पिनाकधृक् ॥
यथा चास्त्राण्य् अवाप्तानि यथा चाराधितश् च ते ॥
यथोक्तवांस् त्वां भगवाञ् शतक्रतुर् अरिंदम ॥
कृतप्रियस् त्वयास्मीति तच् च ते किं प्रियं कृतम् ॥
एतद् इच्छाम्य् अहं श्रोतुं विस्तरेण महाद्युते ॥
यथा तुष्टो महादेवो देवराजश् च ते ऽनघ ॥
यच् चापि वज्रपाणेस् ते प्रियं कृतम् अरिंदम ॥
एतद् आख्याहि मे सर्वम् अखिलेन धनंजय ॥
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
yathāgataṃ gate śakre bhrātṛbhiḥ saha saṃgataḥ ||
kṛṣṇayā caiva bībhatsur dharmaputram apūjayat ||
abhivādayamānaṃ tu mūrdhny upāghrāya pāṇḍavam ||
harṣagadgadayā vācā prahṛṣṭo 'rjunam abravīt ||
katham arjuna kālo 'yaṃ svarge vyatigatas tava ||
kathaṃ cāstrāṇy avāptāni devarājaś ca toṣitaḥ ||
samyag vā te gṛhītāni kaccid astrāṇi bhārata ||
kaccit surādhipaḥ prīto rudraś cāstrāṇy adāt tava ||
yathā dṛṣṭaś ca te śakro bhagavān vā pinākadhṛk ||
yathā cāstrāṇy avāptāni yathā cārādhitaś ca te ||
yathoktavāṃs tvāṃ bhagavāñ śatakratur ariṃdama ||
kṛtapriyas tvayāsmīti tac ca te kiṃ priyaṃ kṛtam ||
etad icchāmy ahaṃ śrotuṃ vistareṇa mahādyute ||
yathā tuṣṭo mahādevo devarājaś ca te 'nagha ||
yac cāpi vajrapāṇes te priyaṃ kṛtam ariṃdama ||
etad ākhyāhi me sarvam akhilena dhanaṃjaya ||
Vaishampayana said: "When Shakra had returned whence he came, Bibhatsu, joining his brothers and Krishna, honored the son of Dharma. Yudhishthira embraced the bowing Pandava, kissed him on the head, and, choked with joy, said: 'Arjuna, how did your time in heaven pass? How did you obtain your weapons? How was the king of the gods satisfied? Did you master all the weapons correctly, Bharata? Is the lord of the Suras pleased? Did Rudra give you weapons? How did you see Shakra and the blessed wielder of the Pinaka? How did you obtain the weapons? How did you honor them? What did Shatakratu say to you — "You have done me a service"? What service did you do for him? I wish to hear all this in full detail, radiant Dhananjaya: how Mahadeva was pleased, how the king of the gods was pleased, and what you did for Vajrapani.'"

Yudhishthira asks not merely about the power of the weapons, but about whether they were rightly obtained and whether the gods were pleased. For him, the blessing matters more than the technique.
