वैशंपायन उवाच
अनुज्ञातः पाण्डवेन प्रययौ संजयस् तदा ॥
शासनं धृतराष्ट्रस्य सर्वं कृत्वा महात्मनः ॥
संप्राप्य हास्तिनपुरं शीघ्रं च प्रविवेश ह ॥
अन्तःपुरम् उपस्थाय द्वाःस्थं वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥
आचक्ष्व मां धृतराष्ट्राय द्वाःस्थ; उपागतं पाण्डवानां सकाशात् ॥
जागर्ति चेद् अभिवदेस् त्वं हि क्षत्तः; प्रविशेयं विदितो भूमिपस्य ॥
द्वाःस्थ उवाच
संजयो ऽयं भूमिपते नमस् ते; दिदृक्षया द्वारम् उपागतस् ते ॥
प्राप्तो दूतः पाण्डवानां सकाशात्; प्रशाधि राजन् किम् अयं करोतु ॥
धृतराष्ट्र उवाच
आचक्ष्व मां सुखिनं काल्यम् अस्मै; प्रवेश्यतां स्वागतं संजयाय ॥
न चाहम् एतस्य भवाम्य् अकाल्यः; स मे कस्माद् द्वारि तिष्ठेत क्षत्तः ॥

śāsanaṃ dhṛtarāṣṭrasya sarvaṃ kṛtvā mahātmanaḥ ||
saṃprāpya hāstinapuraṃ śīghraṃ ca praviveśa ha ||
antaḥpuram upasthāya dvāḥsthaṃ vacanam abravīt ||
ācakṣva māṃ dhṛtarāṣṭrāya dvāḥstha; upāgataṃ pāṇḍavānāṃ sakāśāt ||
jāgarti ced abhivades tvaṃ hi kṣattaḥ; praviśeyaṃ vidito bhūmipasya ||
dvāḥstha uvāca
saṃjayo 'yaṃ bhūmipate namas te; didṛkṣayā dvāram upāgatas te ||
prāpto dūtaḥ pāṇḍavānāṃ sakāśāt; praśādhi rājan kim ayaṃ karotu ||
dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca
ācakṣva māṃ sukhinaṃ kālyam asmai; praveśyatāṃ svāgataṃ saṃjayāya ||
na cāham etasya bhavāmy akālyaḥ; sa me kasmād dvāri tiṣṭheta kṣattaḥ ||
Vaishampayana said: 'Released with the greetings of the Pandavas, Sanjaya set out for [Hastinapura], having carried out every command of the illustrious Dhritarashtra. Reaching Hastinapura, he swiftly entered the city and presented himself at the gate of the inner chambers of the palace. Addressing the gatekeeper, he said: "O gatekeeper, tell Dhritarashtra that I, Sanjaya, have just arrived, coming from the sons of Pandu -- do not delay. If the king is awake, only then should you announce this, O guardian, for I would rather enter after first informing him of my arrival." Hearing this, the gatekeeper approached the king and addressed him with these words: "O lord of the earth, I bow to you. Sanjaya is at your gate, wishing to see you. He comes bearing a message from the Pandavas. Give your orders, O king, as to what he should do." The king said: "Tell Sanjaya that I am happy and well. Let him enter. Welcome to Sanjaya. I am always ready to receive him. Why should one to whom entry is never forbidden remain outside?"' Vaishampayana continued: 'Then, with the king's permission, entering that spacious hall, the son of the Suta, with joined hands, approached the royal son of Vichitravirya, who was guarded by many wise, valiant and righteous men and who then sat upon his throne.'
