Traducción

Intelligence, calmness of mind, self-control, purity, freedom from harsh speech, and reluctance to do anything unpleasant to friends -- these seven are reckoned the fuel that feeds the flame of prosperity. The wretch who gives others no due share, who is evil of soul, who is ungrateful and shameless, should be shunned, O king. A guilty man who provokes another, an innocent one, to anger cannot sleep peacefully at night, like one who passes the night in a room with a serpent. Those, O Bharata, who in their wrath endanger their own wealth and means of livelihood should always be propitiated, just as the gods themselves. Uncertain of success are those undertakings that depend upon women, upon careless men, upon men who have fallen away from the duties of their own class, and upon those of wicked character. They sink helplessly, O king, like a raft of stone, when a woman, a cheat, or a child is at the helm. Those who are skilled in the general principles of a task but not in its particulars are counted as learned and wise, yet for particular undertakings it is those versed in the particulars who prove useful as helpers.
