इत्य् एवं चिन्तयन् कृत्स्नम् अहोरात्राणि भारत ॥
अनिद्रो निःसुखश् चास्मि कुरूणां शमचिन्तया ॥
क्षयोदयो ऽयं सुमहान् कुरूणां प्रत्युपस्थितः ॥
अस्य चेत् कलहस्यान्तः शमाद् अन्यो न विद्यते ॥
शमो मे रोचते नित्यं पार्थैस् तात न विग्रहः ॥
कुरुभ्यो हि सदा मन्ये पाण्डवाञ् शक्तिमत्तरान् ॥
ity evaṃ cintayan kṛtsnam ahorātrāṇi bhārata ||
anidro niḥsukhaś cāsmi kurūṇāṃ śamacintayā ||
kṣayodayo 'yaṃ sumahān kurūṇāṃ pratyupasthitaḥ ||
asya cet kalahasyāntaḥ śamād anyo na vidyate ||
śamo me rocate nityaṃ pārthais tāta na vigrahaḥ ||
kurubhyo hi sadā manye pāṇḍavāñ śaktimattarān ||
‘That wondrous tale heard of the encounter at the city of Virata, between one man on one side and countless warriors on the other, is proof enough of this. That you all fled in every direction, routed single-handedly by this son of Pandu at the city of Virata, is proof enough of this. Might, valor, energy, speed, lightness of hand, tirelessness, and patience are to be found in none but Partha.’ Thus spoke Hrishikesha, encouraging Partha with his words and roaring like rain-laden clouds in the sky. Hearing these words of Keshava, Arjuna of the diadem, borne by white horses, spoke likewise to the same effect.
