This passage develops the central theme of the Udyoga-parva: the effort toward peace already unfolds against the backdrop of an inevitable war. Key themes: the Pandavas, dharma. Dharma reveals itself here through speech, the choice of an envoy, faithfulness to one's promises, and the responsibility kings bear for the consequences of their decisions.
