Traducción
"The hundreds of guardians of the celestial cars, the wardens of heaven's gates, and the keepers of the seats, when questioned, answered, 'We do not know.' All of them, their knowledge veiled, failed to recognize this ruler. And then, in a moment, the king was stripped of his splendor."

Heaven's guardians fail to recognize Yayati because his knowledge and splendor have been veiled by pride. The verse closes the episode with a sharp sign: the loss of inner humility becomes, at once, a loss of light, even for one who has attained heaven.
