तान् बद्ध्वा धर्मपाशैश् च स्वैश् च पाशैर् जलेश्वरः ॥
वरुणः सागरे यत्तो नित्यं रक्षति दानवान् ॥
तथा दुर्योधनं कर्णं शकुनिं चापि सौबलम् ॥
बद्ध्वा दुःशासनं चापि पाण्डवेभ्यः प्रयच्छत ॥
त्यजेत् कुलार्थे पुरुषं ग्रामस्यार्थे कुलं त्यजेत् ॥
ग्रामं जनपदस्यार्थे आत्मार्थे पृथिवीं त्यजेत् ॥
राजन् दुर्योधनं बद्ध्वा ततः संशाम्य पाण्डवैः ॥
त्वत्कृते न विनश्येयुः क्षत्रियाः क्षत्रियर्षभ ॥

varuṇaḥ sāgare yatto nityaṃ rakṣati dānavān ||
tathā duryodhanaṃ karṇaṃ śakuniṃ cāpi saubalam ||
baddhvā duḥśāsanaṃ cāpi pāṇḍavebhyaḥ prayacchata ||
tyajet kulārthe puruṣaṃ grāmasyārthe kulaṃ tyajet ||
grāmaṃ janapadasyārthe ātmārthe pṛthivīṃ tyajet ||
rājan duryodhanaṃ baddhvā tataḥ saṃśāmya pāṇḍavaiḥ ||
tvatkṛte na vinaśyeyuḥ kṣatriyāḥ kṣatriyarṣabha ||
‘Having bound them with the fetters of dharma and with his own fetters, Varuna, lord of the waters, in the ocean, ceaselessly and watchfully guards the danavas. In the same way, bind Duryodhana, Karna, Shakuni Saubala, and Duhshasana, and hand them over to the Pandavas. For the sake of the family, one man should be given up; for the sake of the village, the family; for the sake of the country, the village; for one's own sake, the earth. O king, having bound Duryodhana, then make peace with the Pandavas; let not the kshatriyas perish for your sake, O bull among kshatriyas.’”

Krishna lays out before Duryodhana the concrete chain of his guilt: the game of dice, the humiliation of Draupadi, the attempts to kill the Pandavas, and the rejection of the elders' peaceful counsel. He then proposes a harsh political measure: for the sake of saving the family and the kshatriyas, bind the chief culprits, for dharma sometimes requires cutting off one destroyer so that the whole is not lost.
