यावज्जीवं निराशो ऽसि कल्याणाय धुरं वह ॥
मात्मानम् अवमन्यस्व मैनम् अल्पेन बीभरः ॥
मनः कृत्वा सुकल्याणं मा भैस् त्वं प्रतिसंस्तभ ॥
उत्तिष्ठ हे कापुरुष मा शेष्वैवं पराजितः ॥
अमित्रान् नन्दयन् सर्वान् निर्मानो बन्धुशोकदः ॥
सुपूरा वै कुनदिका सुपूरो मूषिकाञ्जलिः ॥
सुसंतोषः कापुरुषः स्वल्पकेनापि तुष्यति ॥
अप्य् अरेर् आरुजन् दंष्ट्राम् आश्वेव निधनं व्रज ॥
अपि वा संशयं प्राप्य जीविते ऽपि पराक्रम ॥
अप्य् अरेः श्येनवच् छिद्रं पश्येस् त्वं विपरिक्रमन् ॥
विनदन् वाथ वा तूष्णीं व्योम्नि वापरिशङ्कितः ॥
yāvajjīvaṃ nirāśo 'si kalyāṇāya dhuraṃ vaha ||
mātmānam avamanyasva mainam alpena bībharaḥ ||
manaḥ kṛtvā sukalyāṇaṃ mā bhais tvaṃ pratisaṃstabha ||
uttiṣṭha he kāpuruṣa mā śeṣvaivaṃ parājitaḥ ||
amitrān nandayan sarvān nirmāno bandhuśokadaḥ ||
supūrā vai kunadikā supūro mūṣikāñjaliḥ ||
susaṃtoṣaḥ kāpuruṣaḥ svalpakenāpi tuṣyati ||
apy arer ārujan daṃṣṭrām āśveva nidhanaṃ vraja ||
api vā saṃśayaṃ prāpya jīvite 'pi parākrama ||
apy areḥ śyenavac chidraṃ paśyes tvaṃ viparikraman ||
vinadan vātha vā tūṣṇīṃ vyomni vāpariśaṅkitaḥ ||
'As long as you live, do not lose hope: bear the burden for the sake of good. Do not belittle yourself, and do not sustain yourself with trifles. Make your mind auspicious; do not fear — steady yourself. Rise, O faint-hearted one, do not lie thus defeated, delighting all your enemies, devoid of honor and bringing grief to your kin. A puny streamlet is easily filled, and a mouse's handful is soon full; so too the faint-hearted man is content with even the trifling. Better, breaking the enemy's fang, to go to death like a swift horse; or, even risking your life, show valor. Like a hawk, seek out the gap in your enemy, circling about, crying out or silent, in the sky and unafraid.'
