इन्द्रगोपकवर्णाश् च केकया भ्रातरस् तथा ॥
इन्द्रायुधसवर्णश् च कुन्तिभोजो महारथः ॥
मातुलो भीमसेनस्य सेनजिच् च महारथः ॥
शङ्खः पुत्रो विराटस्य निधिस् त्वं च जनार्दन ॥
महान् अयं कृष्ण कृतः क्षत्रस्य समुदानयः ॥
राज्यं प्राप्तम् इदं दीप्तं प्रथितं सर्वराजसु ॥
धार्तराष्ट्रस्य वार्ष्णेय शस्त्रयज्ञो भविष्यति ॥
अस्य यज्ञस्य वेत्ता त्वं भविष्यसि जनार्दन ॥
आध्वर्यवं च ते कृष्ण क्रताव् अस्मिन् भविष्यति ॥
होता चैवात्र बीभत्सुः संनद्धः स कपिध्वजः ॥
गाण्डीवं स्रुक् तथाज्यं च वीर्यं पुंसां भविष्यति ॥
indragopakavarṇāś ca kekayā bhrātaras tathā ||
indrāyudhasavarṇaś ca kuntibhojo mahārathaḥ ||
mātulo bhīmasenasya senajic ca mahārathaḥ ||
śaṅkhaḥ putro virāṭasya nidhis tvaṃ ca janārdana ||
mahān ayaṃ kṛṣṇa kṛtaḥ kṣatrasya samudānayaḥ ||
rājyaṃ prāptam idaṃ dīptaṃ prathitaṃ sarvarājasu ||
dhārtarāṣṭrasya vārṣṇeya śastrayajño bhaviṣyati ||
asya yajñasya vettā tvaṃ bhaviṣyasi janārdana ||
ādhvaryavaṃ ca te kṛṣṇa kratāv asmin bhaviṣyati ||
hotā caivātra bībhatsuḥ saṃnaddhaḥ sa kapidhvajaḥ ||
gāṇḍīvaṃ sruk tathājyaṃ ca vīryaṃ puṃsāṃ bhaviṣyati ||
"There are the crimson-hued brothers of Kekaya, there is Kuntibhoja the great chariot-warrior, shining like Indra's rainbow, there is the maternal uncle of Bhimasena, Senajit the great chariot-warrior, Shankha the son of Virata, and you yourself, O Janardana, like a treasure. A great gathering of kshatriyas has been made, O Krishna; this blazing kingdom has been won and is renowned among all kings. O descendant of Vrishni, the son of Dhritarashtra will have a sacrifice of arms. You, O Janardana, will be the one who understands this sacrifice; yours, O Krishna, will be the office of the adhvaryu priest in this rite. And here the hotar will be Bibhatsu, armored and bearing the monkey banner; Gandiva will be the sacrificial ladle, and the valor of the warriors will be the clarified butter."

Karna speaks from within a complex dharma: he acknowledges the truth Krishna has revealed, yet does not set aside his debt of gratitude to those who raised and sustained him. His image of the war as a sacrifice shows that the battle is already being lived by him as an inevitable, sacred and terrible reckoning for choices made long ago.
