प्रभूतजलकाष्ठानि दुराधर्षतराणि च ॥
भक्ष्यभोज्योपपन्नानि शतशो ऽथ सहस्रशः ॥
शिबिराणि महार्हाणि राज्ञां तत्र पृथक् पृथक् ॥
विमानानीव राजेन्द्र निविष्टानि महीतले ॥
तत्रासञ् शिल्पिनः प्राज्ञाः शतशो दत्तवेतनाः ॥
सर्वोपकरणैर् युक्ता वैद्याश् च सुविशारदाः ॥
ज्याधनुर्वर्मशस्त्राणां तथैव मधुसर्पिषोः ॥
ससर्ज रसपांसूनां राशयः पर्वतोपमाः ॥
बहूदकं सुयवसं तुषाङ्गारसमन्वितम् ॥
शिबिरे शिबिरे राजा संचकार युधिष्ठिरः ॥

bhakṣyabhojyopapannāni śataśo 'tha sahasraśaḥ ||
śibirāṇi mahārhāṇi rājñāṃ tatra pṛthak pṛthak ||

tatrāsañ śilpinaḥ prājñāḥ śataśo dattavetanāḥ ||
sarvopakaraṇair yuktā vaidyāś ca suviśāradāḥ ||
jyādhanurvarmaśastrāṇāṃ tathaiva madhusarpiṣoḥ ||
sasarja rasapāṃsūnāṃ rāśayaḥ parvatopamāḥ ||
bahūdakaṃ suyavasaṃ tuṣāṅgārasamanvitam ||
śibire śibire rājā saṃcakāra yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ||
By the hundreds and thousands, separate costly camps were set up there for the kings: rich in water and wood, still more unassailable, furnished with food and drink; they stood on the ground like palaces, O lord of kings. There were hundreds of skilled craftsmen, paid their wages, furnished with every tool, and highly skilled physicians as well. Keshava had heaps resembling mountains created: of bowstrings, bows, armor, and weapons, and likewise of honey, ghee, liquids, and powders. In every camp King Yudhishthira provided an abundance of water, good grass, husk, and charcoal.

In this chapter, the peace negotiations finally give way to preparation for war. The Pandavas choose their military commander not out of pride but through counsel, experience, and trust in Krishna; their movement to Kurukshetra is then described as orderly, sacrificially prepared, and surrounded by allies. Dharma here manifests not as a refusal to act, but as the right ordering of an unavoidable duty.
