महायन्त्राणि नाराचास् तोमरर्ष्टिपरश्वधाः ॥
धनूंषि कवचादीनि हृद्य् अभूवन् नृणां तदा ॥
गजाः कङ्कटसंनाहा लोहवर्मोत्तरच्छदाः ॥
अदृश्यंस् तत्र गिर्याभाः सहस्रशतयोधिनः ॥
निविष्टान् पाण्डवांस् तत्र ज्ञात्वा मित्राणि भारत ॥
अभिसस्रुर् यथोद्देशं सबलाः सहवाहनाः ॥
चरितब्रह्मचर्यास् ते सोमपा भूरिदक्षिणाः ॥
जयाय पाण्डुपुत्राणां समाजग्मुर् महीक्षितः ॥
mahāyantrāṇi nārācās tomararṣṭiparaśvadhāḥ ||
dhanūṃṣi kavacādīni hṛdy abhūvan nṛṇāṃ tadā ||
gajāḥ kaṅkaṭasaṃnāhā lohavarmottaracchadāḥ ||
adṛśyaṃs tatra giryābhāḥ sahasraśatayodhinaḥ ||
niviṣṭān pāṇḍavāṃs tatra jñātvā mitrāṇi bhārata ||
abhisasrur yathoddeśaṃ sabalāḥ sahavāhanāḥ ||
caritabrahmacaryās te somapā bhūridakṣiṇāḥ ||
jayāya pāṇḍuputrāṇāṃ samājagmur mahīkṣitaḥ ||
Then great engines, iron arrows, darts, spears, axes, bows, armor, and the rest of the weaponry gladdened the hearts of men. There were seen elephants resembling mountains, clad in mail and covered with iron armor, able to carry hundreds of thousands of warriors. Learning that the Pandavas had encamped there, O Bharata, their allies came to the appointed places with their forces and their transport. These kings of the earth, who had observed brahmacharya, drunk soma, and been generous with their gifts, gathered together for the victory of the sons of Pandu.

In this chapter, the peace negotiations finally give way to preparation for war. The Pandavas choose their military commander not out of pride but through counsel, experience, and trust in Krishna; their movement to Kurukshetra is then described as orderly, sacrificially prepared, and surrounded by allies. Dharma here manifests not as a refusal to act, but as the right ordering of an unavoidable duty.
