न तु पर्यायधर्मेण सिद्धिं प्राप्नोति भूयसीम् ॥
मनसैव हि भूतानि धाता प्रकुरुते वशे ॥
त्रयोदश समा भुक्तं राज्यं विलपतस् तव ॥
भूयश् चैव प्रशासिष्ये निहत्य त्वां सबान्धवम् ॥
क्व तदा गाण्डिवं ते ऽभूद् यत् त्वं दासपणे जितः ॥
क्व तदा भीमसेनस्य बलम् आसीच् च फल्गुन ॥
सगदाद् भीमसेनाच् च पार्थाच् चैव सगाण्डिवात् ॥
न वै मोक्षस् तदा वो ऽभूद् विना कृष्णाम् अनिन्दिताम् ॥
सा वो दास्यं समापन्नान् मोक्षयाम् आस भामिनी ॥
अमानुष्यसमायुक्तान् दास्यकर्मण्य् अवस्थितान् ॥
na tu paryāyadharmeṇa siddhiṃ prāpnoti bhūyasīm ||
manasaiva hi bhūtāni dhātā prakurute vaśe ||
trayodaśa samā bhuktaṃ rājyaṃ vilapatas tava ||
bhūyaś caiva praśāsiṣye nihatya tvāṃ sabāndhavam ||
kva tadā gāṇḍivaṃ te 'bhūd yat tvaṃ dāsapaṇe jitaḥ ||
kva tadā bhīmasenasya balam āsīc ca phalguna ||
sagadād bhīmasenāc ca pārthāc caiva sagāṇḍivāt ||
na vai mokṣas tadā vo 'bhūd vinā kṛṣṇām aninditām ||
sā vo dāsyaṃ samāpannān mokṣayām āsa bhāminī ||
amānuṣyasamāyuktān dāsyakarmaṇy avasthitān ||
“If deeds in this world were accomplished through boasting, O Dhananjaya, everyone would attain their goal; what wretched man would not boast much? I know that Vasudeva is your ally; I know that your Gandiva is as tall as a palm tree; I know that there is no warrior like you. And yet, knowing this, I withhold your kingdom. A man does not attain great success by roundabout means: the Creator subdues beings by mind alone. For thirteen years I have enjoyed the kingdom while you lamented, and, having slain you together with your kinsmen, I shall rule again. Where was your Gandiva then, when you were lost in the wager for servitude? Where was Bhimasena's strength then, O Phalguna?”

In this chapter Uluka's speech becomes Duryodhana's harshest weapon. He recalls the Pandavas' real humiliations, but not for the sake of justice — only to wound and provoke. Notably, the boasting here is aimed at Arjuna: Duryodhana knows the strength of Krishna and the Gandiva, yet still clings to power, revealing a blindness that arguments can no longer cure.
