Traducción

'Let a man raise himself by himself and not degrade himself; for the atman is a friend to itself, and the atman is also an enemy to itself. For one who has conquered himself by himself, the atman becomes a friend; but for one who does not possess himself, the atman acts as an enemy, like a foe. For one who has conquered himself and is at peace, the Paramatma abides serenely amid cold and heat, happiness and suffering, honor and dishonor. The yogi who is satisfied with knowledge and realization, steady, who has conquered the senses, and who is equal toward a clod of earth, a stone, and gold, is called united with yoga. He excels whose intellect is equal toward a well-wisher, a friend, an enemy, one who is indifferent, a mediator, one who is hateful, a kinsman, and likewise toward the righteous and the sinful.'
