अर्जुन उवाच
यो ऽयं योगस् त्वया प्रोक्तः साम्येन मधुसूदन ॥
एतस्याहं न पश्यामि चञ्चलत्वात् स्थितिं स्थिराम् ॥
चञ्चलं हि मनः कृष्ण प्रमाथि बलवद् दृढम् ॥
तस्याहं निग्रहं मन्ये वायोर् इव सुदुष्करम् ॥
श्रीभगवान् उवाच
असंशयं महाबाहो मनो दुर्निग्रहं चलम् ॥
अभ्यासेन तु कौन्तेय वैराग्येण च गृह्यते ॥
असंयतात्मना योगो दुष्प्राप इति मे मतिः ॥
वश्यात्मना तु यतता शक्यो ऽवाप्तुम् उपायतः ॥

yo 'yaṃ yogas tvayā proktaḥ sāmyena madhusūdana ||
etasyāhaṃ na paśyāmi cañcalatvāt sthitiṃ sthirām ||
cañcalaṃ hi manaḥ kṛṣṇa pramāthi balavad dṛḍham ||
tasyāhaṃ nigrahaṃ manye vāyor iva suduṣkaram ||
śrībhagavān uvāca
asaṃśayaṃ mahābāho mano durnigrahaṃ calam ||
abhyāsena tu kaunteya vairāgyeṇa ca gṛhyate ||
asaṃyatātmanā yogo duṣprāpa iti me matiḥ ||
vaśyātmanā tu yatatā śakyo 'vāptum upāyataḥ ||

प्रमाथि बलवद् दृढम्pramāthi balavad dṛḍhamturbulent, powerful, obstinate; overwhelming, mighty, unyielding
तस्याहं निग्रहं मन्येtasyāhaṃ nigrahaṃ manyeI consider its restraint; I think its control
वायोर् इव सुदुष्करम्vāyor iva suduṣkaramas difficult as the wind; like the wind, almost impossible
श्रीभगवान् उवाचśrībhagavān uvācaThe Blessed Lord said; The Blessed Lord spoke
असंशयं महाबाहोasaṃśayaṃ mahābāhowithout doubt, mighty-armed one; undoubtedly, mighty-armed one
मनो दुर्निग्रहं चलम्mano durnigrahaṃ calamthe mind is hard to restrain, restless; the mind is restless and hard to control
अभ्यासेन तु कौन्तेयabhyāsena tu kaunteyayet by practice, O Kaunteya; but by training, son of Kunti
वैराग्येण च गृह्यतेvairāgyeṇa ca gṛhyateand by detachment it is grasped; and by dispassion it is mastered
असंयतात्मना योगोasaṃyatātmanā yogofor one who has not mastered himself, yoga; for one lacking self-mastery, yoga
दुष्प्राप इति मे मतिःduṣprāpa iti me matiḥis hard to attain, such is My view; is difficult to attain, so I hold
वश्यात्मना तु यतताvaśyātmanā tu yatatābut for one who has mastered himself and strives; but for one who has controlled himself and makes effort
शक्यो ऽवाप्तुम् उपायतःśakyo 'vāptum upāyataḥit can be attained by the right means; it is attainable through the proper method
Traducción

Arjuna said: 'O Madhusudana, for this yoga of equanimity that You have proclaimed, I do not see a steady footing, because of the mind's restlessness. For the mind is indeed restless, O Krishna — turbulent, powerful, and obstinate; I consider restraining it as difficult as the wind.' The Blessed Lord said: 'Without doubt, O mighty-armed one, the mind is restless and hard to restrain; but, O son of Kunti, it is mastered by practice and by detachment. For one who has not mastered himself, yoga is hard to attain — this is My view; but for one who has mastered himself and makes the effort, it is attainable through the right means.'
