कामैस् तैस् तैर् हृतज्ञानाः प्रपद्यन्ते ऽन्यदेवताः ॥
तं तं नियमम् आस्थाय प्रकृत्या नियताः स्वया ॥
यो यो यां यां तनुं भक्तः श्रद्धयार्चितुम् इच्छति ॥
तस्य तस्याचलां श्रद्धां ताम् एव विदधाम्य् अहम् ॥
स तया श्रद्धया युक्तस् तस्या राधनम् ईहते ॥
लभते च ततः कामान् मयैव विहितान् हि तान् ॥
अन्तवत् तु फलं तेषां तद् भवत्य् अल्पमेधसाम् ॥
देवान् देवयजो यान्ति मद्भक्ता यान्ति माम् अपि ॥
kāmais tais tair hṛtajñānāḥ prapadyante 'nyadevatāḥ ||
taṃ taṃ niyamam āsthāya prakṛtyā niyatāḥ svayā ||
yo yo yāṃ yāṃ tanuṃ bhaktaḥ śraddhayārcitum icchati ||
tasya tasyācalāṃ śraddhāṃ tām eva vidadhāmy aham ||
sa tayā śraddhayā yuktas tasyā rādhanam īhate ||
labhate ca tataḥ kāmān mayaiva vihitān hi tān ||
antavat tu phalaṃ teṣāṃ tad bhavaty alpamedhasām ||
devān devayajo yānti madbhaktā yānti mām api ||
"Those whose knowledge is stolen by this or that desire resort to other deities, following this or that observance, constrained by their own nature. Whatever form of a deity a devotee wishes to worship with faith, I Myself establish his unwavering faith in that form. Endowed with such faith, he seeks to propitiate that deity and obtains from it the desires he seeks, but these are granted by Me alone. Yet the fruit of such people of little wisdom is finite: worshipers of the gods go to the gods, but My devotees come to Me."

Krishna does not deny the effectiveness of worshiping the devatas, but shows its limits. Even that faith is sustained by Him, and the final fruit is determined by the object of worship: what is temporary leads to what is temporary, while devotion to Him leads to Him.
