Bhimasena and Ghatotkacha were performing a great feat, and Duryodhana, approaching, blocked the path of both of them. There we witnessed the astonishing valor of Hidimba's son, O Bharata: in battle he fought surpassing his own father. Then the enraged Pandava Bhimasena, as if laughing, struck the wrathful Duryodhana in the chest with an arrow. Stunned by that excellent blow, king Duryodhana sank onto the platform of his chariot and fell into a swoon. Realizing he was senseless, his charioteer swiftly drove him away from the battle, O king, and then the army wavered. After this Bhima, with sharp arrows, struck the Kaurava army as it fled on every side and pursued it from behind. Parshata, the finest of chariot-warriors, and the Pandava, son of Dharma, before the eyes of Drona and Gangeya, struck the army with sharp arrows that tore apart the enemy's ranks. Bhishma and Drona, the great chariot-warriors, could not stop your son's army as it fled in battle. Though Bhishma and Drona tried to hold it back, the army kept fleeing before their very eyes, O lord of men. When thousands of chariots scattered in every direction, Saubhadra and the bull of the Shini race, standing upon a single chariot, destroyed Saubala's army from every side. Then Shaineya and the bull of the Kurus shone like the moon and the sun entering the new moon in the sky."

Duryodhana's fall shows for a moment how much the army depends on his visible presence. And the image of Satyaki and Abhimanyu on a single chariot again underscores the strength of allied unity.
