यौधेयारट्टराजन्यान् मद्रकांश् च गणान् युधि ॥
प्राहिणोन् मृत्युलोकाय किरीटी निशितैः शरैः ॥
प्रगाढम् अञ्जोगतिभिर् नाराचैर् अभिपीडिताः ॥
निपेतुर् द्विरदा भूमौ द्विशृङ्गा इव पर्वताः ॥
निकृत्तैर् हस्तिहस्तैश् च लुठमानैस् ततस् ततः ॥
रराज वसुधा कीर्णा विसर्पद्भिर् इवोरगैः ॥
क्षिप्तैः कनकचित्रैश् च नृपच्छत्रैः क्षितिर् बभौ ॥
द्यौर् इवादित्यचन्द्राद्यैर् ग्रहैः कीर्णा युगक्षये ॥
yaudheyāraṭṭarājanyān madrakāṃś ca gaṇān yudhi ||
prāhiṇon mṛtyulokāya kirīṭī niśitaiḥ śaraiḥ ||
pragāḍham añjogatibhir nārācair abhipīḍitāḥ ||
nipetur dviradā bhūmau dviśṛṅgā iva parvatāḥ ||
nikṛttair hastihastaiś ca luṭhamānais tatas tataḥ ||
rarāja vasudhā kīrṇā visarpadbhir ivoragaiḥ ||
kṣiptaiḥ kanakacitraiś ca nṛpacchatraiḥ kṣitir babhau ||
dyaur ivādityacandrādyair grahaiḥ kīrṇā yugakṣaye ||
The Yaudheyas, Arattas, Rajanyas, and Madrakas -- their hosts in battle -- the Diademed One sent to the world of death with sharp arrows. Grievously pierced by iron arrows of true flight, the elephants fell to the ground like twin-peaked mountains. With the severed trunks of elephants rolling everywhere, the covered earth glimmered as if with crawling serpents. With discarded, gold-adorned royal parasols the earth shone, like the sky strewn with the sun, moon, and other luminaries at the destruction of the age.

The verse piles up images of universal dissolution: fallen elephants like mountains, trunks like serpents, cast-off parasols like stars in the sky at the end of an age. It is telling that royal parasols, emblems of power and protection, lie in the dust like stars torn from heaven: the symbol of dominion is turned into the refuse of the battlefield. The verse teaches that all the splendor of earthly kingship is a passing pattern, and in the hour of destruction crowns and parasols differ in nothing from dust.
