The opening of the hymn to prāṇa — and at once at full breadth: eṣo 'gnis tapati — "she burns as fire", eṣa sūryaḥ — "she is the sun": the hymn recognizes prāṇa in all the great powers — in Parjanya the rain, in Indra Maghavan, in the wind, in the earth, in rayi (in her own "partner" from the first question!), in the existent and the non-existent — sad asac ca — and in the immortal above them: amṛtaṁ ca yat.
The manner of the hymn is the manner of all true praise: having seen the One, to see it everywhere. A moment ago the faculties did not believe in prāṇa (verse 19) — now they cannot help seeing her: conversion overturns not the facts but the sight; the world is the same, the recognition other.
A word of honesty: the hymn praises prāṇa as an omnipresent energy — but an energy is somebody's. The Praśna itself will say further on (3.3): "prāṇa is born of the Ātman as a shadow of a man." The praise of prāṇa is a step: one who has learned to see one Life in all the powers is ready to ask whose Life it is; so every right veneration of energy ripens into the veneration of its Source — as the Kena passed from "the hearing of hearing" to Tadvana, the Desired.
